The charge

People say that the future of the Carnival of Viareggio pass through the Citadel of the Carnival, where one of the most important masks in the world are created by master craftsman. Behind the creativity and the astonishing skill and experiance of the craftsman there are a great story that came to life many years ago. It is the history of the masks, artefacts that cover the face and reveal the hidden istances of the humen soul. They become the symbol of everythig that can be brought to light.

Fabrizio Galli is a sculptor, a painter, a set designer and master builder of great floats of the Carnival of Viareggio. He paid homage to the founding fathers of the masks through a monumental work that will be placed on the outside of the Citadel.

The idea of an external placing of the work there was from the beginning of the project. The project was conceived and designed by the architect Francesco Tomassi who coperated with Fabrizio Galli during the creation of this extraordinary work.

One of the great dreams of the master Galli has always been to honor the city with his sculpture and create a permanent monument which demostrate his love for Viareggio.

For Fabrizio Galli was a great satisfaction to be chosen for the project execution by the Carnival Foundation. He immadiately started to work to create a majestic and original sculpture. His creation embodies the pirit and philosophy concealed under the purest love for our Carnival.
