Viareggio will never forget the tragic night of 29 June 2009 in which the whole city is engulfed in pain because of a serious train accident that caused the collapse of 2 buildings and the deaths of dozens of people. We cannot forgotten, but people should raise stronger than even, get up and walk with the scar that unfortunately the Tuscan city, a symbol of Carnival and of happiness, will have to carry around. Fabrizio Galli decided to dedicate one of his statues just to his city as a symbol of rebirth and strength.
And there was no better symbol than the sun, that every morning check whatever has happened, ??? look at anything or anyone, despite all odds. The sun as hope for the future that is a right hope also for who live no more.
The mask takes inspiration from Burlamacco, the official mask of the Carnival of Viareggio. All around rays of sunshine as a large crown that are formed by many embrace people who put their hands up to the sky to search for new life.
This mask differs from the others that make up the work "When the body dominates the mind," because it doesn't inspire fear or sanctity but only lightly, serenity and harmony.
All the feelings that Viareggio needs to smile again.

This mask has become the symbol of the rebirth of the city and was represented in 28 cardboard suns, 28 as the victims of the disaster. They has been created by the newspapers of the following days after the tragic accident.
The suns were brought by 28 Children, accompanied by Renato Zero,on the stage of the Citadel of the Carnival at the Memorial "Viareggio recalls Viareggio", organized by the Fondazione Giorgio Gaber and the Municipality of the city.
On August 20 for the show "Viareggio rises better than even" a bigger sun was created and brought to the city of L'Aquila in Abruzzo. The sun was donated through the marathon of solidarity, which united the two cities that this year became sadly notorious in the chronicles of Italian tv news.
